Overview of Popular GenAI Tools
Before we delve into prompting techniques, let's briefly look at some popular GenAI General-Purpose Language Models or text-text tools.
- CoPilot by Microsoft: An AI-powered code completion tool. Strengths: Excellent for coding assistance, integrates well with development environments. Weaknesses: Limited to coding tasks, may sometimes suggest incorrect code.
- ChatGPT: A versatile conversational AI model. Strengths: Strong language understanding, wide-ranging knowledge, good at creative tasks. Weaknesses: Can occasionally produce incorrect information, limited to text-based interactions.
- Claude by Anthropic: An AI assistant with strong analytical capabilities. Strengths: Excels at analysis, problem-solving, and detailed explanations. Weaknesses: May sometimes be overly verbose, performance can vary with complex tasks.
- Gemini by Google: Google's multimodal AI model. Strengths: Can handle text, image, and video inputs, strong in various domains. Weaknesses: As a newer model, it may have less widespread adoption and fewer user reviews.
- A couple others to mention are Meta.ai and Groq
An additional category is the AI powered search engine. These are great for asking simple questions or needing facts that can have verifiable sources.
1. Perplexity: An AI-powered search engine and question-answering system. Strengths: Combines web search with AI-generated answers, provides sources. Weaknesses: Responses may sometimes be less coherent than dedicated chatbots.
2. SearchGPT: A new AI-driven search tool leveraging the capabilities of OpenAI's GPT models to provide detailed, contextually relevant search results. Strengths: Generates highly accurate and context-aware responses, integrates well with various data sources. Weaknesses: May require significant computational resources, and responses can sometimes be overly verbose. In Beta testing now
3. Microsoft Copilot: An AI-powered assistant, powered by OpenAI’s LLM models. Incorporates searches as well as context aware of pages when used in a browser. Strengths: Enhances productivity by offering integration into the Microsoft ecosystem of applications. Weaknesses: Blurs the line between content generation and content retrieval, which can create confusing results.
4. Google Gemini: An advanced AI search engine designed to deliver precise and relevant search results by leveraging Google's vast database and sophisticated algorithms. Strengths: High accuracy and relevance of search results due to the extensive database and advanced search algorithms. Weaknesses: Relies heavily on the quality and extent of its indexed data, which can sometimes result in missing out on newer, niche or less popular sources.
Summary: Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of different GenAI tools is crucial as you begin crafting prompts. In the next part of our series, we'll share top tips for creating better prompts that can enhance the quality and relevance of AI-generated responses.
