3 Strategies to Managing Attack Surface Expansion

10-20-2023 13:13

Attack surface management is a large component of modern cybersecurity strategy, with CISOs needing to adapt their tactics to respond and be proactive against the emerging threats across all environments. It’s easy to see why attack surfaces are expanding with the move to hybrid and/or remote environments, multi-cloud strategies and so on.

There are the usual security metrics to put in place when organizations plan for the work environment expansion. This includes but, not limited to endpoint security and network security.

To further manage attacks, there are three potential strategies your customers need to implement:

1. Assessments

Assessments are a proactive way to assess the vulnerabilities within the environment and put a plan in place ahead of any breaches or security attacks. In fact, TD SYNNEX just launched a new comprehensive and complimentary assessment tool. Through this tool, we offer general security, cloud security, healthcare security, education security, cloud governance and infrastructure assessments for all partners and end users. This proprietary evaluation provides organizations with an adaptable roadmap for managing security risks and protecting critical assets.

2. Zero Trust Strategy

To be proactive against any attacks, there are four Zero Trust solution functions that an organization should be practicing regularly: monitoring, detection, defense and response. This method assumes that there is no traditional network edge, leaning into surfaces spanning onsite, remote and on cloud.

3. Network Segmentation

Minimizing the size of the surface by adding barriers. Traditional firewalls are common solution in this case. Microsegmentation, which divides networks into segments, applying security into each section depending on the access, will further define the control of the surface.
